High temperatures are assured year round thanks to its positioning so close to the equator, and it is often compared to Hawaii which sits at the same latitude. Puerto Vallarta is a resort city in Mexico, on the country’s west coast. Based on the Pacific Ocean it has a collection of beautiful beaches surrounding its coastline, as well as a series of superb cultural activities to get stuck into.

Puerto Vallarta’s climate actually sees much less extreme storms than surrounding areas due to the south-westerly direction of the winds, which mean weather systems pass over Cabo Corrientes before they reach the resort. Puerto Vallarta is also somewhat protected from Pacific winds due to the curve of the bay, and the high mountains covered in thick rainforest that rise right behind it, and drop straight into the sea around it. The winds which do affect the sea and the Pacific currents mean Puerto Vallarta is a great surfing spot, as well as a popular place for other water sports like kitesurfing and paragliding.

Most importantly, Puerto Vallarta does not have a hurricane season to watch out for, unlike eastern Mexican resorts such as Cozumel and Cancun. This is because it is on the Pacific coast – far from the hurricane belt. Overall, the resort could therefore be preferable to others in Mexico for year-round trips.

June is the hottest month in Puerto Vallarta with an average temperature of 27°C (81°F) and the coldest is January at 22°C (72°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 12 in May. The wettest month is September with an average of 358mm of rain. The best month to swim in the sea is in August when the average sea temperature is 30°C (86°F).

 Punta de Mita

The beauty of this destination can be appreciated from the air as a small colonial city surrounded by tropical vegetation and nestled in the Bahía de Banderas, the biggest bay in Mexico and the second largest in North America. Puerto Vallarta seems to climb up from the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean towards the Sierra Madre’s jade-green mountains that evoke really deep emotions. The city center includes the main courtyard and the emblematic tower of the Church of Guadalupe and her filigree crown. You’ll feel the magic of Puerto Vallarta that no other beach destination can offer. It brings together the essence and warmth of an old colonial Mexican town with the luxury and high technology of a modern tourist destination.

Punta de Mita is where the most amazing fantasies about the Tropics’ mysticism and beauty do come true. It’s located about 45 minutes northeast from Puerto Vallarta in an exotic setting that has been created thanks to the natural formations of volcanic rocks that covered this area of the bay. Long extensions of fine sand beaches and spectacular clear-blue waters surround Punta de Mita. Punta de Mita is considered one of the best places to practice deep sea fishing, snorkeling and surfing. Punta de Mita features world-class restaurants where you can indulge your palate as well as your sight because many of them offer outstanding views of the bay or dinner under the star-filled skies.
