Kantenah Family Select by Katya Dubnikov
This group has been a huge help for us when we planned our trip and I would like to share my honest review.
Amazing Resort!
Starting with the Incredible Staff
I want to begin this review with the amazing staff because they truly made our stay exceptional. If anyone from the hotel is reading this, please appreciate and reward your hardworking team for their dedication!
Butler Service
If you’re traveling with kids, Family Select is a must. The butler service was outstanding, and we can’t thank Abraham enough. He was our main butler, and he went above and beyond to take care of all our needs. Paris and Aaron were also fantastic, the butlers helped us with:
• Restaurant bookings
• Entertainment recommendations
• Fixing any issues—for example, at one point, we didn’t have water in our room, and they took care of it immediately.
• Making sure we had everything we needed—Abraham even arranged for us to have lunch packed for our trip to the airport, which was incredibly thoughtful and helpful, considering how expensive food is at Cancun Airport.
Family selection area also had the best beach area. We didn’t tried the dedicated restaurant “the Nest” for dinner and it was ok and tried the FS pool restaurant and the pear salad there was amazing!
Our experience would not have been the same without Abraham—he is a truly wonderful person!
Restaurant Staff – Exceptional Service
The service at the restaurants was top-notch. We want to give special thanks to:
• Rosalia at La Grand Azul breakfast buffet – So kind and welcoming.
• Aczansion at La Hacienda buffet – His name was a little hard to remember, but he was fantastic!
• Marcelino at the crepe station – The best dessert at La Hacienda! He works so hard and always has a smile. Please tip him—he deserves it!
• Filamena at La Hacienda – Amazing service.
Beach
The beach is amazing with clear water and there is a little reef after the farthest buoy. It was a bit wavy some days but the water was still quite warm.
Best beach location is in front of the Kantenah family selection area. No problem finding beach chairs.
Grounds
The resort itself is absolutely breathtaking! The grounds are incredibly well kept, and the entire place feels like you’re in a jungle paradise.
• We loved walking across the bridges and exploring the pathways—everything is so lush and tropical.
• Even though we enjoyed walking, there is transportation to White Sand, and carts run every 10 minutes. There was no problem getting a cart, and if you signal them, they will stop for you.
Wildlife was everywhere! We saw:
• Monkeys near our building
• Lots of iguanas
• Coatis and agoutis
• Important note: While the animals are beautiful to watch, they are wildlife, and there is a strict rule not to feed them. However, you can feed the fish once a day in the ponds around the resort, which was a lovely experience.
The natural beauty of the resort truly adds to the experience—absolutely stunning.
Food & Drinks – The Best Buffet We’ve Had
The food at La Hacienda buffet was by far the best.
• For breakfast, the White Sand buffet is a great option because it’s smaller and less crowded, but still has everything you need.
• For dinner, La Hacienda is the biggest buffet, offering more variety, and we always found something delicious.
Buffet Highlights
• Grilled meats – Absolutely delicious, everything from the grill was cooked perfectly.
• Fried rice – Surprisingly, we loved the fried rice at La Hacienda more than at the Japanese restaurant!
• Risotto – One night, the risotto at La Hacienda was better than at the Italian restaurant.
• Desserts – The crepes at La Hacienda (thanks to Marcelino!) were the best.
À La Carte Restaurants
We tried the Italian, Japanese, and Thai restaurants, but honestly, La Hacienda buffet was our favorite.
• Thai restaurant – The food was not great, but the Mai Thai drink was good.
• Japanese restaurant – We enjoyed the teppanyaki show (fire and cooking in front of us), but the food itself was just okay.
• Italian restaurant – Average food.
The buffet is truly five-star, with plenty of fresh fruit, variety, and high-quality food.
Coffee
• Breakfast coffee was better than dinner coffee for some reason.
• There is no dedicated coffee shop at the resort.
• The in-room coffee machine was a great addition. We requested extra coffee capsules from our butler, and they brought them to us.
• The buffet café machine was good when working, but sometimes it ran out of milk.
Drinks
• Non-alcoholic cocktails for kids were great! My daughter loved the Shirley Temple.
• We don’t drink much alcohol, but I did try a mojito at the Italian restaurant and didn’t like it.
Entertainment & Activities – So Much Fun!
The night entertainment was a huge highlight of our trip! We enjoyed:
• Silent Party – A unique experience! We just wish it started a bit earlier, as it ended late.
• White Party & Mexican Fiesta – Both were well-organized and fun for the whole family.
• Beach Party (Mardi Gras theme) – Amazing Brazilian dancers and live music, truly unforgettable.
Live Rock Band show:
• The male singer was incredible!
• The guitarist was incredibly talented—he played “Welcome to the Jungle” and was amazing.
• The female singer wasn’t as great, but overall, the band was fantastic.
The entertainment team worked so hard to keep guests engaged and having fun.
Kids Club & Pool Activities
• There were kids’ activities during the day, but my kids (9 and 14) were probably too old for them
• The kids’ pool had inflatables, but my kids couldn’t use the boats, as they were for younger children.
• We did the inflatable course at the white sand pool—it was $15 per kid for an hour, and they had so much fun!
• The Colonial pool had a fun atmosphere with music and plenty of chairs available.
Transportation – Easy & Affordable
We booked our airport transfer through VIP Transfer, which was handled by Lummus Travel.
• The price was great.
• Easy to find at the airport.
• They arrived on time for our return trip, which made our departure stress-free.
A special mention to Abraham, our butler—before we left, he offered to pack us lunch for the airport, which was incredibly thoughtful. Cancun airport is VERY expensive (a bottle of water is $9!), so bringing snacks from the resort saved us a lot of money.
Airport Experience
• When we arrived in Cancun, it was very crowded—we had to wait two hours to get through.
• Honestly, they need a bigger airport because it was overwhelming.
• That being said, the resort was worth the wait.
Final Thoughts – We Will Be Back!
This was by far the best resort we’ve ever been to! We have tried two other resorts, but this one beats them all.
• The staff, food, entertainment, beach, and service were all exceptional.
• The resort itself is stunning, and the wildlife and nature make it a magical experience.
• We were truly sad to leave, and we will definitely be back!
