The ceiba was the most cherished tree in the Mayan culture. This tree represented the universe. It’s roots reach deep into the earth and represent the underworld. One could reach their ancestors by following the roots. The trunk of the tree represented the earth where humans live. The high branches were thought to divide the heavens of the Mayan culture.
Palladium did an amazing job showcasing this tree in this beautiful area. You can find this area at the entrance to Kantenah lobby. Beautifying the area while respecting the Mayan traditions…great work Palladium.hanks to Peter for sharing g these two sacred spots at the GP Riviera Maya

        Ceiba tree

Carolyn and I had the most amazing experience today with Juan Carlos de las Heras, Guest experience manager at Riviera Maya. Juan Carlos explained to us the three places on the resort which are home to sacred Maya things: XAAC Templo Sagrado, IXMUCANE Grand Cenote, and XTABAY Grand Ceiba.
Juan Carlos explained that two of these areas are currently open for all guests to visit. The cenote is located roughly 100 feet from White Sands lobby going towards TRS. The ceiba is located next to Kantenah lobby. The Mayan temple is currently not open for guests to visit.
The hotel has done a lot of work to beautify these areas and respect Mayan traditions and culture regarding them. In the future, the hotel is considering a premium Mayan Experience.
Juan Carlos Accompanied us to the temple and we were able to take some photos. The temple was roughly a 4-5 minute walk from the entrance. Mayan culture teaches that the temples are guarded by monkeys. Before reaching the temple, there is a circular portion at the end of the path where we stopped. Monkeys would come and circle us to decide whether to allow us into their environment. It was a very interesting experience.
