        Copied from Joan Cancun

“During the height of COVID many resort (tourism workers in general) left this area to return to their home States. Most did not return.

Others took jobs (if they could find them) outside tourism and have chosen to stay with those new jobs.

So almost all resorts are still understaffed. I see ads for hotel workers and job fairs for tourism all the time. And the one requirement that always use to be part of the requirements but is not in many instances know is to be able to speak at least 60-70% English. So many of the new workers don’t speak English. So rudeness maybe being mistaken for lack of understanding.

Add to that the location of the resort. Many do not want to add a fairly long bus ride to their already long day. And if they miss the resort provided transportation it’s an expensive taxi ride to work….money they really don’t have.

We may be coming out of COVID but the effects may very well be with us for a tine to come.

Add to that the issues of getting things right now (supply chain) and the high cost of many things (inflation) that has caused many food and beverage managers to switch brands and do without.”
