TRS Yucatan
Well what a truly spectacular week it has been! We have come home with very heavy hearts but with many great memories to cherish and some wonderful new friends.
We were made to feel so welcome and soecial from the very moment we booked our stay. Elsa Lucia was an absolute angel; helping us with any questions, organising an anniversary dinner for us and helping us with room requests. Nothing was too much for her and we thank her so much for the attention she gave us. It is such a shame she no longer works at the hotel as she was amazing!
Our room was beautiful – we were in 6231. A royal suite. It had two balconies – one with an ocean view over Helios and another looking over the mangroves. The room was spotless and our maid left us with fantastic towel art nearly every day. Having seen other reports stating that the shower cubilces only open outwards I was a little nervous about slipping. However, the cubicles do open inwards which means it’s totally fine as you can put the bath mat down and dry your feet fully before walking on the marble floor. So ignore those reports – the doors open both ways!!The food at this resort is wonderful, we never had a bad meal. Our favourite restaurant by far was Tentazione. The food and service we received were both stunning. A massive thank you to Diego, Augustin and Roberto who looked after us so so well and gave us memeories we will never forget! We told Diego that we would be going to Tentazione for our last night and when we arrived he had organized rose petals to decorate the table, set out a bottle of champagne and we were given a beautiful dessert platter which said ‘thank you for visiting the TRS’. So sweet and really thoughtful.
We didn’t visit the pools as we loved the beach so much. Fernie and Irvin at the beach bar were absolutely incredible – we had such a good time with them. Always making us laugh, making brilliant cocktails and making every day just so good. They both work so hard and yet have the time to really get to know you, we loved them both!!! Yes the TRS area is at the other end of the beach but it is literally a 10 minute walk from the wedding chapel at the end of the path between buildings 61 and 62 up onto the beach or 15-20 minutes in a buggy. But let’s face it – after all the yummy food and drink a walk will do you good, plus it’s a beautiful walk. Yes there is also seaweed on the beach – but guess what its a beach, that happens! It is still beautiful and you can still swim.
Chic cabaret was brilliant – we had a great night. The acts are very well put together, the service is very very good and the food was delicious and served as part of the show. The singers were fabulous and as was the gentleman on the saxaphone. You must go and see it!!
I had booked a surprise dinner for my other half to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. It was supposed to be on the beach but unfortunately it decided to rain! The service we received during our dinner was exceptional again, as was the food. We were also serenaded by two guitarists who were excellent and was such a surprise! I was also given a beautiful bouquet of flowers – such a nice touch! Due to the rain we were seated outside Chang Thai. The hotel had tried hard to still make it special, however I did feel the location was a little ‘lacking’ – especially as we were staying at the TRS where the restaurants are beautiful and very romantic. Our table was next to the walkway which had some souvenir stalls and the gift shop behind – it was actually very busy with people (as it should be on a Saturday night) – this did take the romance away slightly. When we returned back to our room it had been decorated with rose petals, been given a bottle of champagne and some chocolate dipped strawberries. All in all a lovely night but do think the ‘rainy location’ could be improved/changed.
Suggestion: all the parties, nights, events etc should be loaded onto the TVs under the ‘parties and happenings’ tab as currently it says to ask your butler, who can be hard to find/contact at times. Without the Unofficial Palladium group we wouldn’t have known what was going on each day.I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it is the best we have stayed at. We could not believe how wonderful and caring all the staff were – you really do feel like you are joining a family. We know we have made some life long friends and we cannot wait to return!!!
Massive thank you to Anne Adams too for this group and all the advice and tips you gave us before our trip.
