Well, that was interesting… we had a snack over at La Cueva and walked back towards the beach, on the now “public access.” Another couple entered just behind us and received a smattering of verbal calls from one man, carrying a beer in his hands.
Do you know the rules here? You have to have life jackets to swim in the bay. You have to have a guide. The polite tourist kept repeating, no thank you, no thank you, no that you. The man persisted, you have to know the rules to access this bay. Do you know the rules here? You need a guide. You need a life jacket…
Again, the tourists tried to shake him off. He repeats, you have to have a guide to swim in the bay!
I piped in, No you don’t!
The man got angry, yes you do, it’s the law! I repeated, no you do not!
He said to me, you’re the problem, stupid Americans! You want to privatize the bay so people have to pay. They are stupid Americans, don’t listen to them, they want you to pay.
Really? Hmmm… who’s requiring them to pay for everything and telling them it’s the law, with a beer in your hand???
        Sick and sad.
